Marks Park Cricket Club is a sub-section of Marks Park Sports Club in Emmerentia and has been in existence for over 30 years.

 

Marks Park Cricket Club of today was in 2005, born out of the merger between the Greater Mayfair Cricket Club and Marks Park Protea Cricket Club. The Cricket Club is governed by its own constitution and Club Executive that is elected by the Club's members.

 

In 2010 the Club secured a title sponsorship with Medal Paints and was re-branded Medal Paints Marks Park Cricket Club. Medal Paints Marks Park Cricket Club is affiliated to the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) and competes in the in the Premier A, Presidents A, Sunday 3, Sunday 4 and Saturday 1, Saturday 7 and Saturday 8 leagues. 

 

The junior section of the Club has players from 5 to 15 years old. The Under 7 mini cricket section has a cricket development programme that prepares budding cricketers for the game. The Club also competes in Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 GCB leagues. A number of junior players from the Club were also selected to represent the Gauteng Central Development Teams in under 11, 13 and 15 age groups. All the Club’s coaches are at a minimum Level-1 GCB certified with the Club Captain and Head Coach Yasin Manack Level 3 certified.

 

The cricket season officially starts in October but registration and training begins in August. During the season, the Club participates in various events, tournaments and also hosts a fun day for the kids to enjoy cricket as well an awards ceremony at the end of the season to recognise and award players for their participation and outstanding cricketing achievements.

  • To give players of all races and gender an opportunity to participate in the game

  • To develop from within the community cricket players, cricket coaches, cricket umpires and cricket scorers

  • To encourage a culture of team spirit, self-esteem, discipline, courage, responsibility and respect within our players, coaches and administrators

  • To recognise and reward participation and outstanding achievement both on and off the field
