Junior Cricket Structure
Marks Park Cricket Club Junior Section provides cricket coaching and games for young boys and girls from the Central Gauteng Lions that includes Greater Mayfair, Fordsburg, Homestead Park, Crosby, Melville, Emmerentia, Greenside, Northcliff, Robertsham and surrounding areas. The Club emphasises participation, enjoyment, family involvement and opportunity for all junior cricketers.
Junior League Cricket
Marks Park Cricket Club is affiliated to the Central Gauteng Lions (CGL) and all junior teams from Under 7 to under 15 play in the CGL Junior League. The league runs from the beginning of October to the end of March with a break during the December school holidays. Games are played either at home or away at other Cricket Club’s affiliated to the CGL.
Junior League Training
August to September – Saturday Afternoons from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at Marks Park Sports Club
October to March – Saturday mornings from 8:00AM to 12:00PM & Wednesday evenings from 5:30PM to 7:30PM (optional)
Junior Coaches
Our Junior coaches and administrators are committed to develop and coach children as cricketers and to also provide them with the discipline and life skills learnt through playing this wonderful game. All our Junior coaches are minimum Level 1 Certified.
Under 7 cricket is about participation and enjoyment. Players are introduced to the game of cricket and go through 3 levels of development: developing their fine motor movement and hand-eye coordination, developing cricket techniques for batting, bowling and fielding and playing league games against other club’s. The game is played using Mini Cricket rules. Under 7 Pitch Length : 16m

At Under 9 level, players are introduced to the hard ball and are required to wear all protective gear when batting. The batting, bowling and fielding techniques for playing with the hard ball are developed through net sessions and drills. Players are divided into teams based on the number of players. All players are given the opportunity to play league games every alternate Saturday during the cricket season. Ball Size : 113g, Pitch Length : 17,68m.

At Under 11 level, players batting, bowling and fielding techniques are further refined and the game is played more competitively. Players are divided into two playing pools, the Under 11 1st team and the Under 11 2nd team. Both teams play league matches every alternate Saturday during the cricket season.

Under 13 cricket is played at a more competitive level. Players at this level are aware of their cricketing abilities and talents and are played in assigned batting and bowling roles. Physical fitness, cricketing technique and discipline are emphasised.

Under 15 cricket is the stepping stone to Senior Cricket. Players at this level have already developed and refined their cricket techniques and are now coached on their physical fitness, mental aspects and technical disciplines of the game.
